Support the Protect Veteran Jobs Act and call for the reinstatement of any veteran fired by DOGE

Nearly 6,000 veterans have been fired across the federal government, according to data from Democrats on the House Appropriations Committee. That data found that DOGE has fired about 38,000 federal employees since the start of Trump’s second term.

“Our veterans make significant sacrifices in service of our country, but those sacrifices do not seem to matter to President Trump and unchecked billionaire Elon Musk,” said Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro.

Mass Layoffs and Impact on Veterans:
The "D.O.G.E." (Department of Government Efficiency) initiative is leading to widespread layoffs within federal agencies, including the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
Because veterans constitute a substantial portion of the federal workforce, they are disproportionately affected by these layoffs.

Concerns and Criticisms:
Veterans and veteran advocacy groups, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), have expressed strong criticism of these layoffs, arguing that veterans are being "indiscriminately harmed."
Concerns include the sudden nature of terminations, the impact on veterans' livelihoods and retirement benefits, and questions about the fairness of the process. There are also legal questions being raised regarding the legality of the mass firings of probationary employees.
Specific Case Examples:
The KTVB article highlights the case of Vicky Teigue, a veteran with 35 years of government service, who was terminated shortly before her planned retirement. Her case highlights issues such as the reclassification of her position as "probationary," which made her more vulnerable to termination. Allegations of violations of due process and lack of just cause for her firing. The loss of her health and retirement benefits.
